In 2013, Ypsilanti Area Dancers, a non-profit organization founded in 1969, changed its name to Randazzo
Dance Company. The Randazzo Dance Company continues under the artistic direction of Sara Randazzo, co-owner of Randazzo Dance Studio and a dancer/teacher with a rich and varied career in dance including performing, choreographing, directing, producing and teaching for over 40 years. The Ypsilanti Area Dancers was founded originally by Marjorie Randazzo, Ruth Deake, Suzanne Buck and Madge Davidson. Over the years, it has operated as a non-profit organization dedicated to providing young local dancers the opportunity to perform while encouraging appreciation for the fine arts and cultural pride in the community. It also offers summer intensive dance scholarships to eligible company members each summer. Many former members have continued their careers professionally with companies such as National Ballet of Canada, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Ballet Austin, Milwaukee Ballet, Ballet Tucson, and have performed in numerous shows on Broadway.
Randazzo Dance Company will present its 49th Annual Holiday show with a fresh perspective on The Nutcracker. This delightful, holiday classic, will incorporate new choreography and beautiful costumes. Guest dancers from the Boston ballet will be joining us on stage and providing workshops for the young dancers. The holiday performance will be held on December 2-3, 2017. Sara will be working with assistant directors Roya Panahi, Audrey Slough and Christine Sampier on this beautiful production.
